The two standards and their components set up protocols and uniform specifications for batch control systems, including types of control equipment, design of control systems and interpretation of batch control data, as well as integrating such processes with the general manufacturing business enterprise. In Volume 2 of the series, the ISA 88 is explained in terms of use in batch processing or semi-batch processing, both when setting up a new ISA 88 system or retrofitting an existing system with ISA 88 "recipes." The ISA 88 and 95 standards have been around (and periodically updated) for nearly 20 years now, but little really helpful has been published on how to put those standards into use, particularly from a pragmatic, real-life experience point of view.
